About HazardMap
HazardMap is an independent reference site in the US natural-hazard and disaster reference data space. Federally declared disasters and earthquake history for every US state, from FEMA and USGS open data.
What we do
We turn US public-domain hazard data into fast, answer-first reference pages. Disaster counts come from FEMA's OpenFEMA Disaster Declarations Summaries; earthquake history comes from the USGS catalog. Every figure is aggregated transparently and attributed to its source.
How we work
Our state and ranking pages are generated from a committed data snapshot that we aggregate locally — deduplicating FEMA's county-level rows down to distinct declarations. See our methodology for exactly how the numbers are produced, the refresh approach, and known limitations.
Independence
HazardMap is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by FEMA, USGS or NOAA. Content is for general information only and is not safety or insurance advice.
